Our special guests
The dinner will be emceed by the voice of Australian cycling Mike Tomalaris. Mike is one of the longest serving members of SBS’ sports team, and a tireless advocate and supporter of Australian cycling. He has served as SUVelo’s Club Patron since its formation in 2010.
Our special guests this year are two of the world’s top cyclists: Rachel Neylan and Richie Porte.
Rachel Neylan committed to a cycling career in late 2007. By 2012 she claimed silver in the World Championships. In 2015 she won the inaugural Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race and finished second in this year’s edition. In May she won the prestigous Le Grand Prix de Plumelec – Morbihan Dames. Rachel had the honour of representing Australia in the recent Rio Olympics.
Richie Porte joined the Pro peloton in 2010 and made an immediate impact. At the Giro d’Italia, he claimed the Young Rider classification and wore the Maglia Rosa for three stages. A move to Team Sky in 2012 brought yet more success: two Paris-Nice titles (2013, 2015) and wins at the Volta a Catalunya and Giro del Trentino in 2015. A National Time-Trial Champion, he moved to BMC in 2016 and like Rachel, represented Australia in the Rio Olympics.
Mike will interview Rachel and Richie and you will be invited to ask them anything about their illustrious careers. You will also have a chance to chat with our guests before and after the meal.
